Tidelines II

Our re-hang and re-fresh of the summer Tidelines exhibition was launched last Thursday, and we had three artists speak of their processes to the gathered crowd. Lotti Dumesny spoke about how she produced her work, And the Sea Spoke of Stardust, combining photography, digital collage, ink and paint (and sequins!). Then Shari Nye detailed her process for producing her beautiful abstract works, and how much mood affects the results. Marjorie Raetz then spoke about her journey back to art via inspirational Broken Hill, and then landing in Port Fairy and finding connection in a ceramics group with Meg Finnegan. Huge thanks to the artists for being so generous with their words and time.

Tidelines II continues through to the end of February. All works are available for sale.

TIDELINES The Tidelines exhibition has been very well-received, with many art sales, so we extend our congratulations to every artist who has contributed to the exhibition, and gratitude to those who have supported it! Given its success, we are extending the (slightly modified) exhibition to 2 March. Sold works will go to their new homes and artists will supply some brand new replacements! Tidelines II will (re)open with a social event on Thursday, 1 February at 6pm, where three of our exhibiting artists - Marjorie Raetz, Shari Nye and Lotti Dumesny - will discuss their practice and methods. Coming up at Glyph:

Following Tidelines, our March exhibition is being brought to us by the wonderful people at Grampians Arts! 'Impressed' will be an exhibition of works produced at the Grampians Arts workshops. Printmakers from Basil Hall’s Summer Brushes or Gary Shinfield’s Grampians Brushes workshops have been invited to submit artworks created during those workshops, or using techniques learned in those workshops - including collagraphy (printing from a sealed collage plate), etched linoleum and woodcut. Basil’s recent workshop culminated in a 2.1m long collaborative print (pictured) in which each participant created a plate that lined up with its neighbouring plate, producing a stunning landscape image, reminiscent of a rural journey.

Volunteers needed for Workshops:

Thank you to all our current volunteers who have kept the place running as smoothly as you have - we couldn't do it without you! We are currently on the lookout for people who might be interested in assisting on a Workshops sub-committee. This would include building an exciting workshop calendar, and assisting with the delivery/implementation of workshops. Please contact us if you are interested.

New artist on board:

We are thrilled to welcome Rob Cosby as a new artist exhibiting at Glyph. Rob Cosby is a talented printmaker, usually working in linocut (see images).

What's On around town:

Port Fairy Sketch Club: this is a weekly event, on Saturdays at 11am. Anyone is welcome. Join via the Facebook page - Port Fairy Sketch Club - the day's location will be posted there around 9am on the Saturday. BYO materials. No tutor. No fee.

Life Drawing at Glyph: this is a monthly event. The next one is Tuesday, 6 February at 7.30 pm. $30 non-members, $20 members - covers the model and refreshments. Untutored. BYO materials. Please register HERE.

'In Blue' at the Garden Studio 70. Jill Edwards presents a range of all things blue: cyanotype, indigo, shibori, stitch and leather, bird studies, beads and wire, photography, eco prints. You can view this (and her gorgeous garden) at her Garden Studio 70, 70 Model Lane, Port Fairy.

The Biblio Art Prize at Blarney Books & Art in James Street continues through until the end of February. Prizes yet to be announced are the Rainbow Prize, the Starving Artist Prize, and the People's Choice (please vote when you visit)!
